Lara Croft hypes up gamers with this pre-Microsoft conference tease
Yesterday, the first trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider since its announcement was released. While the trailer primarily aimed to get Xbox gamers ready for E3, it also showed quite a bit about the game’s theme and what to expect from this year’s premiere action adventure game. Check it out!
Not a ton of Tomb Raider information has come about since it’s announcement last August, but this latest trailer has definitely piqued my interest for E3.
Since it’s wordy unveiling at GamesCom last summer, many gamers have spent time wondering what platforms the Microsoft published game would appear on. Phil Spencer, the Head of Xbox, has reiterated several times that Rise of the Tomb Raider is just a timed exclusive for Holiday 2015, but where it will ultimately launch after the exclusive launch has yet to be announced.
In an interview with Eurogamer last August, Spencer explained the Xbox partnership with Square Enix and Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics.
“I get the reaction I see. If I’m a PlayStation person I feel like, oh, all of a sudden the franchise is going,” said Spencer. “I didn’t buy the IP. I didn’t buy the studio. It’s not mine. Where this thing will go over time – just like Dead Rising or something else – we’ll see where these things go. Just like Ryse. We’ll see what happens with the games. I don’t own every iteration of Tomb Raider.”
Despite stating that he doesn’t know where the game will go in the future, Spencer’s comparison to Ryse and Dead Rising are interesting choices. Both titles launched on Xbox One and ultimately made their way to PC after several months of exclusivity. Whether those are just coincidental comparisons or if he’s hinting at what other platforms might see the title on is still up in the air.
If the latest trailer created a new thirst for more Lara Croft, feel free to rewatch the the announcement trailer from last year. With less than two weeks until Microsoft’s conference, Tomb Raider hype is perhaps at an all time high!
