With less than a week until E3, the Xbox team seems to finally hit their stride
With a “sparse” holiday season for the PS4, it seems like the ball is now in the Xbox One’s court. And looking at everything happening in the next six months, it seems like the team might just be set for a slam dunk. It’s been a busy morning for Xbox, so lets get right into it.
First off, Larry Herb, Xbox Live’s Major Nelson, revealed a brand new 1TB storage Xbox One launching later this month for $399. More interesting than the boosted storage, though, the bundle also includes the recently rumored improved Xbox One controller. In addition to adding a direct 3.5mm headphone jack, the controller also features improved left and right bumpers (a frequent gripe with the previous Xbox One controller model). If you plan to pick up the new model (which features a new matte finish), the bundle will also include The Master Chief Collection for a limited time in the US. Next up, according to this NeoGAF thread, it seems the release date for Xbox exclusives Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider have been leaked by Amazon France. The latest circuit racer is listed as a release for Friday, September 18th. If that date is to be believed, North Americans can probably expect to the play the game on Tuesday the 15th. If action adventure games are more your style, then you can expect to cliff dive into Rise of the Tomb Raider on Friday, November 13th. Once again, if Microsoft is following normal publishing dates, North Americans can expect the game a few days earlier on the 10th. Because of the nature of leaks, feel free to use a bit of skepticism with these dates, though I’m sure we’ll get a concrete timeline for fall games next week.
Lastly, video game magazine goliath Game Informer revealed their July cover to be Halo 5: Guardians. In their announcement of the cover, they noted that they spent a significant amount of time playing early missions in the singleplayer portion of upcoming exclusive. In a series first, Master Chief will be fighting along side the Blue Team best known for their role in the Halo novels. The legendary squad is made up of Linda, Fred, Kelly and of course the Chief. The inclusion of the team both serves to fill the hole Cortana left at the end of Halo 4 while also adding a 4-player cooperative element to the series. With all the new content both official and leaked, it seems that excitement for the Xbox One and its games are at an all-time high. Now that E3 is right around the corner, we just have to see if the Xbox team can capitalize on their big fall advantage.
