Hideo Kojima offers up a bittersweet goodbye to the Metal Gear franchise with his final trailer.
Instead of flexing the impressive Fox Engine graphics or montaging explosions like other launch trailers, series creator Hideo Kojima chose to show the evolution of his franchise from start to finish in his Metal Gear swan song. While there is still appeal for those who haven’t played the games before, this trailer definitely has long time fans in mind when it pulls at nostalgic heart-strings. Take a look:
This final trailer is also the last Metal Gear Hideo Kojima will direct. Earlier this year, it became evident that his team and publisher Konami had a serious falling out. In the time since the initial break-up, Konami cancelled Kojima’s upcoming Silent Hill game he was developing with horror maestro Guillermo del Toro. Adding insult to injury, the publisher also removed Kojima’s name from many of his works over the past decade. While things between the publisher and Kojima are in bad shape, it appears the final game came out incredible based on critic’s reception.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launches September 1st on PS4, Xbox One and last-gen consoles. Shortly after console launch, the game will also be available on PC.
