With Just Cause 3’s imminent launch, developer Avalanche Studios and Square Enix turn up the cringe in launch video.
As is tradition with any AAA video game, a hype trailer before launch is a great way to catch gamer’s attention one last time before a game hits store shelves. What’s unusual is the amount of cheese Avalanche Studios has put into this particular trailer. Check it out:
If you made it through that entire thing without being mildly annoyed, I applaud your tolerance for silly shenanigans. Like many, I’m cautiously optimistic for Just Cause 3’s release, but this has to be one of the worst launch trailers in recent memory. Besides the fact that the game has an emphasis on high-octane action, little-to-no details about the game are shown. Additionally, previous trailers have shown off extreme levels of destruction to show how powerful the engine is. For this launch trailer, Avalanche almost seems to have toned down the scale of things — an odd decision.
To contrast this trailer, check out their “Set The World On Fire” trailer from earlier this month. The quality is exceptional and it really makes a better case for Just Cause 3 as an empowering sandbox of destruction.
What do you think of the Just Cause 3 launch trailer? Did it hook you on the game’s silly action, or was it more annoying than entertaining? Feel free to share your thoughts with me in the comments below or on Twitter!
Just Cause 3 launches on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on Dec. 1.
