According to The Coalition, Gears of War 4 will be ready for Scorpio come holiday 2017.
Although Gears of War 4 will release on Xbox One and Windows 10 in just over two months, developer The Coalition has built the game to meet the potential of Microsoft’s next console.
“We have invested in scalable features in our engine to support a broad range of GPUs and performance profiles for PC and console, ” said technical director Mike Rayner in an interview with Digital Foundry. “We have authored our content at 4K, which allows us to show higher resolutions with increased source content detail on the highest end GPUs.”
Rayner said their scalable tech allows them to plan for Scorpio to ensure they use the console to “its fullest” while maintaining a “no-compromise approach” as they finish up development on Xbox One and PC versions of the game.
Citing the Universal Windows Platform, Rayner also noted that The Coalition will now be able to allow gamers to together over Xbox Live while still pushing the Xbox One, the Xbox One S, Windows PC and Scorpio to each of their respective limits.
Although Scorpio is slated to release in 12-18 months, it’s clear that The Coalition and Microsoft are working together to ensure Gears of War 4 is a gorgeous release in October and an even prettier one when Scorpio launches next year.
