Run the Jewels and giant enemies take centerstage in the Horde 3.0 trailer.
As revealed back at E3 2016, Gears of War’s premiere co-op mode, Horde, will be making a return in Gears of War 4. Months later, developer The Coalition has shed some light on what’s new and different in Horde 3.0.
Seen throughout the trailer are the Sniper, Engineer, Scout, Soldier and Heavy classes each play a role in keeping the Swarm and the recently revealed COG robot “Deebees” at bay. In an interview with Windows Central, Gears of War 4’s multiplayer designer Ryan Cleven talked about each of the roles have a skill card at the beginning that gives them different abilities. As the patch progresses, players will eventually be able to bring in five cards per class. Classes can serve to benefit individual players but the best Horde players will work with their team to draft the best composition. Cleven went on to say that the classes aren’t “strict” and players will be able to play whatever way suits them even if their class is, say, Sniper.
Another component of the trailer is the massive enemies that Horde teams will have to deal with. The trailer doesn’t make it clear if these enemy encounters happen at random or if there are boss waves every ten or so levels.
Lastly, folks who enjoyed the Gears of War 4 beta last spring will probably recognize a few of the levels featured in the premiere. The Coalition has said that Horde and Multiplayer maps are the same just as they were in Gears 2 and 3. Additionally, only one player will have to own a particular map or season pass should a Horde team want to play a level that’s currently out of Coalition’s planned rotating free DLC plan.
This weekend, Coalition will be hosting several Gears of War Horde 3.0 events and streams at PAX, so be sure to hang around the Gears of War Twitch channel on Friday and Saturday.
Gears of War 4 launches on Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 11, 2016.
