Xbox’s biggest exclusive is about to get it’s very own reality TV show surrounding esports personalities.
It’s no secret that Microsoft and Xbox have spent the past two years pushing console esports. While their latest push is with Xbox’s little brother franchise, Gears of War, Microsoft is upping the ante by partnering with Pilgrim Media Group to produce reality competition esports surrounding Halo 5: Guardians.
The reality show comes from a Electronic Sports League (ESL) and Pilgrim Media Group’s partnership earlier this year to create content surrounding some of the biggest games in esports. If this partnership will follow ESL and Pilgrim’s original broadcast plan, Halo’s reality esports show will be available on traditional networks as well as broadcast on channels like Twitch and YouTube Gaming.
While Halo 5: Guardians had an admittedly successful year with ESL complete with a 2 million dollar championship and a primetime spot during the X-Games, it’s somewhat surprising to see Halo as the obvious choice for reality television considering games like Hearthstone, Counterstrike: Global Offensive or DOTA 2 consistently have higher viewership with better known esports personalities.
