Mass Effect Andromeda and Injustice 2 both look to hit the market before April.
UPDATE: Ed Boon of NetherRealm Studios took to Twitter to say Injustice 2 will not be releasing March 28. This could suggest that Andromeda’s date is wrong as well.
ORIGINAL STORY: Xbox Live Rewards is offering 15 dollars back for gamers who pre-order at least three of nine AAA games coming to the platform in the first three months of the year. Included in the nine are Injustice 2 and Mass Effect Andromeda with actual launch dates rather than vague launch windows provided by the developers.
Injustice 2, which Xbox claims is launching on March 28 is a Tuesday – the conventional release date for new games in North America. Mass Effect Andromeda is supposedly releasing three days later on March 31, which is a Friday. While Friday is relatively unusual for North American game releases, it’s not entirely unheard of. Another EA published game, Battlefield 1, launched on a Friday in October, so Andromeda could follow in its footsteps.
While slightly less likely, Andromeda could also have a version of the game that releases on March 28 just like Battlefield 1’s Early Enlister Edition, which also released three days early.
Another possibility with Andromeda is that March 31 is a placeholder date for first quarter releases. If that’s the case, Andromeda could release earlier in March but the developer and publisher don’t have a firm date. Of course, March 31 could end up being an inconsequential date for Andromeda because in an earning call EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said those in charge of the project haven’t ruled out another delay.
“[Mass EffectAndromeda] looks beautiful, and we’re really pleased with its progress,” said Jorgensen. “However, as you’ve seen, we are willing to make moves in launch dates if we feel it’s necessary to deliver the right player experience.”
This is the first info we’ve had on a solid release date for both Injustice 2 and Mass Effect Andromeda for a little while, so for now, all we can do is hope Xbox Rewards had solid dates in their promotion.
