Friday the 13th hits consoles and PC this May

After a successful Kickstarter and a delay, Gun Media says Friday the 13th: The Game is almost ready for release.

As a bit of an end-of-the-week surprise, developer Gun Media has announced that Friday the 13th: The Game is hitting Xbox One, PS4 and PC on May 26, 2017.

The game was originally scheduled to release last fall after a successful Kickstarter campaign supported by industry icon and horror lover Adam Sessler helped pitch the idea on the crowdfunding website. Since then, Gun Media delayed the game to refine the experience and add a singleplayer campaign after fan feedback suggested it be included. Amongst singleplayer, the developer also added AI controlled bots for those who are looking for offline play.

Gun Media has maintained that its support plan for Friday the 13th: The Game remains the same as before: a multiplayer beta (which happened earlier this year), an initial multiplayer release and finally adding the singleplayer and AI later this summer.

On Twitter, the develop said part of the reason for the delay was getting approved by ratings boards given the game’s graphic nature.

As for pricing, Friday the 13th will be $39.99 USD at launch. Sometime after the initial digital-only release, the game will also have a physical version. Gun Media has confirmed that the game will have pre-order information available soon, but strangely, the developer has confirmed the game won’t be up for pre-order on PlayStation ahead of launch. Those hoping for Switch port will also have to keep their fingers crossed as the developer has said they’ve got no plans to bring the game to the platform.

As for cross-platform support, Gun Media said on social media that they have “no word at this time.” Given the gameplay style of the game, it doesn’t seem like PC players would have an overt advantage over console gamepads. Given minor bumps through the development process, it seems Gun Media is primarily focused on getting the game out the door on time with all features up and running before adding extra content.

Friday the 13th: The Game will be slashing its way to Xbox One, PS4 and PC May 26, 2017.
