First Battlefront II beta details revealed

DICE’s massive Battlefront follow up will host a public beta ahead of its November launch.

After a reveal in the spring and a number of closed alphas on PC, DICE  has announced it will be opening Battlefield II’s floodgates with a public open beta from October 6-9, 2017 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Those who pre-ordered the game will gain early access starting on October 4.

The beta will feature two modes: First, there’s Naboo’s Theed map which is playable in Galactic Assault. For those who have been following the game’s multiplayer reveal, this is the same map DICE was showing off extensively during E3. The beta will also include a new mode called Starfighter Assault, but DICE was dodgy on what the mode actually entails. Based on the name and what we know so far about the sequel, this sounds like a space equivalent of Fighter Squadron mode in Battlefront 2015 but using the new space mechanics that were introduced in the Death Star DLC. The mode will also give players the ability to pilot some of the series’ most iconic space ships just like the first game’s flight modes.

DICE has confirmed that space battles akin to Pandemic’s Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) will be coming to this year’s game, but they’ve yet to give in-depth details. Still, Starfighter Assault is set to be revealed by the developer during its Gamescom debut in August, so by time the beta rolls around in October, we’ll know plenty about the mode.

Star Wars Battlefront II is out on November 17, 2017, but you can try it out early during the beta period from October 6-9, 2017 with two days of early access for those who pre-ordered. The full version of the game can be played on a 6-10 hour trial basis for EA and Origin Access subscribers starting on November 10, 2017.
