Nintendo reveals plans in a series of evening tweets

Conventional business hours be damned, Nintendo is going to tell you about platform developments whenever it feels like it.

Just after 8 p.m. last night, Nintendo of America sent out a series of tweets filling fans in on upcoming developments. Most interestingly, the delayed rollout of Nintendo Online is finally slated to launch in September 2018. Nintendo Online’s complete details are still a mystery, but we know that online play will require a subscription similar to Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus. Additionally, subscribers will have exclusive benefits and can use the Nintendo Online mobile app to connect and chat with friends.

Shortly after Nintendo Online’s new launch month was revealed, the company noted that its next mobile game, Mario Kart Tour was in development. Nintendo doesn’t have a lot to say about the game as of yet, but it’s expected to launch sometime before March 2019.

Lastly, Nintendo also announced a new partnership with Illumination, the studio behind the Despicable Me and Minions franchise on a new film starring Mario. Details around the movie are still sparce, but it’ll be produce by Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri (Despicable Me, Minions, Secret Life of Pets).

While each piece of news from last night’s tweets are more than a few months away, it’s good to see Nintendo being more forthcoming with their community. Which piece of news are you most excited for? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below or on Twitter.
