Xbox’s teases Gamescom show with surprises

From One X pre-orders to buidling momentum after delaying Crackdown 3, Xbox’s Gamescom show should be interesting.

As part of the biggest games show in Europe, Xbox is once again holding their own Gamescom festivities this weekend. Those in Cologne, Germany can attend a FanFest event and play games coming to the platform later this year, but it seems those at home should expect a little something as well.

The long overdue pre-order details for the Xbox One X will definitely be revealed during the Gamescom presentation. The teaser promo from the Xbox Twitter and reminders from Amazon and GameStop have made that abundantly clear.

The teaser also points out that the show will also have “lots of swag” this year. It’s unclear if the trailer is referring to Xbox merchandise that will be given to Gamescom attendees or if the Xbox team is planning another “MixPot” similar to what they offered to those who watched E3 using Microsoft’s Mixer streaming platform. The E3 MixPot offered Rare Replay, No Time To Explain and The Final Station to Mixer users, so it’s possible Mixer users could be in for more free games if they watch the Gamescom show on Mixer. Of course, if there’ll be another MixPot, Xbox will be sure to announce it in the days leading up to the show.

After delaying Crackdown 3 yesterday, Xbox boss Phil Spencer took to Twitter to make a brief statement on the delay and tease Xbox news coming at Gamescom.

Spencer also noted that the team is doing something at Gamescom that they haven’t done in some time, whatever that might mean.

Back in 2014, Xbox held a full-fledged press conference at Gamescom announcing games like Screamride and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Since then, the company has backed away from the almost E3-sized show. This year’s presentation doesn’t appear to be as substantial as 2014, but it’s safe to say there’s more to see than last year.

If you’re interested in catching Xbox’s Gamescom show, tune in Aug. 20, 2017 at 9 p.m. CEST/ 8 p.m. BST/ 3 p.m. EST/ Noon EST on Twitch, YouTube or Mixer.
